After five years, I'm not under any false impressions about you—or us. It's long enough that we have been through pretty much anything with each other and come out the other side.

We have been through it all:

• Limerence, that goo-goo ga-ga hopelessly romantic stage of seeing the entire Universe in each other's eyes
• Passion killers, those dangerous moguls that everyone must navigate around after the romantic fairy tale of limerence fades
• Dirty laundry, the areas of darkness that come to light when all the hiding places have been discovered
• Health problems, yours and mine, serious enough that they caught our attention
• Family and everything that goes with it as we have embraced each other's genetic and legal connections, past and present, for better and for worse

We’ve been through it all. And we’re still here…

We've been through five years of trial by fire and hanging in there through thick and thin. Of course, the "thick" part has made it all worth it. We haven't just survived. We have thrived!

And here we are, well into the second half of the game of life. We know what to expect with each other. We have each other's back. And, truth be told, there's no one in the world I would rather spend the rest of life with than you.

So, Barbara Molle, my best friend, my lover,
my beloved partner in life… will you marry me?

In case you need some reasons:

• We have so much in common.
• We are both warriors and survivors. We are tough old birds who have been through the battles.
• We see the strength and beauty in each other.
• We have learned to accept each other's weaknesses.
• I can handle your dirty dishes in the sink and your little piles of stuff everywhere
• You can tolerate my organizing the cupboards and refrigerator into tidy little sections where everything has its precise and rightful place.
• We are finally learning (mostly) to practice kindness and patience with each other.
• Between the two of us, we always seem to have at least one healthy functioning body (if you were to put all the good parts in one…) and at least half of a good memory.
• We get some damn good laughs in. We’re actually very funny people.
• There's no one else I’d rather snuggle with when the day is done.
